Jason P. Nance, Student Surveillance, Racial Inequalities, and Implicit Racial Bias, Emory Law Journal vol. 66 (2017), presents an original empirical analysis of restricted Department of Education data released after the Sandy Hook shooting to show that schools serving primarily students of color rely on more intense surveillance measures than schools serving primarily white students, and that the racial disparities persist after controlling for neighborhood crime, school crime, and school disorder.
