Nitrokey is a German security-hardware company whose products include authentication tokens, encrypted storage, and related open-source-oriented devices. Capabilities vary materially by model; some keys focus on FIDO authentication, while others expose smart-card or cryptographic functions.
It is a possible European hardware lead in Swedish and EU privacy suppliers. German manufacture and an open-source orientation give it an EU-sovereignty story Yubico cannot match. The wide capability spread across models is what makes it awkward to resell: a recovery kit has to name specific part numbers, because “a Nitrokey” does not describe a fixed feature set.
