Threema is a Swiss encrypted-messaging provider. Its portfolio includes a consumer messenger, managed organizational service through Threema Work, and a self-hosted option through Threema OnPrem.
The products share a brand but create different administrative, identity, deployment, and metadata boundaries. The brand name therefore identifies no trust boundary on its own: “we use Threema” leaves open whether Threema operates the server, whether an administrator controls the directory and device enrollment, and where backups live.
Privacy competitors and inspirations uses Threema as evidence that organizations will pay for managed or customer-hosted encrypted collaboration.
